As we mark the first-year anniversaries of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, CERF+ is training artists to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. In October, at the request of the Houston Arts Alliance, CERF+ staff members Carrie Cleveland and Jenifer Simon, along with disaster management and arts consultant, Amy Schwartzman, presented two CERF+ Ready + Resilient Workshops to Houston area artists and performers.

Also in October, CERF+ presented at disaster preparedness workshops for the New York Foundation for the Arts and Soho Gallery, sponsored by the Alliance for Artist Response – NYC, and the Feminist Art Project. In each workshop, participants learned how to conduct a risk assessment, strengthen their studio safety practices, document and store their work, the basics of business insurance and key actions to take during a disaster to protect their art, career and livelihood.
