On Jul 22, 2022, a fast-moving, unpredictable wildfire started near Yosemite National Park. As of July 27, the fire has burned dozens of homes, threatened 1,400 structures, forced evacuation of 3,000 people, and destroyed nearly 19,000 acres.
Although the pace of the fire has slowed, it still threatens areas to the north and east, including an area known as Mariposa Pines, which has been surrounded by fire on three sides. More than 3,000 personnel are tackling the fire, deploying air and land efforts including two dozen helicopters, 286 fire engines, 68 water tenders and 94 bulldozers, according to Cal Fire.The Oak Fire is the largest of California’s fire season so far, but it remains relatively small compared to other California wildfires in recent years.
