Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville
The Arts & Business Council (ABC) of Greater Nashville has a listing of legal and business resources for artists and is the parent organization for Nashville’s Volunteer Lawyers and Professionals for the Arts. ABC has an excellent series of business and legal seminars for artists that is especially strong on intellectual property issues.
Arts Business Institute
A non-profit educational organization established by the Rosen Group, ABI provides educational resources to the arts community in the U.S. and Canada through annual retreats and business skills workshops held in conjunction with local arts organizations and with the Rosen Group’s Buyers Market of American Craft. ArtBizTV on the website contains marketing advice from Wendy Rosen, President of the Rosen Group and interviews with artists on business and marketing-related issues. Blog entries on the site cover a wide range of marketing topics.
Center for Cultural Innovation
CCI helps self-employed artists, small arts businesses and the nonprofit arts sector in California start, manage and grow their own businesses. They also teach entrepreneurial training workshops in Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, and the Bay Area.
Chicago Artists' Coalition
The Chicago Artists’ Coalition offers career development workshops and exhibition opportunities for artists in Chicago.
Famous for their excellent weekend-long intensive art business workshops, Creative Capital has a series of one-topic webinars. You will need a computer with speakers, but no special software. The cost is $25 per 90 minute session. Check their calendar for times and topics.
Creative Capital’s Professional Development Program (PDP) shares with a broad community of artists some successful tools and strategies for improved self-sufficiency. Workshops are presented around the country through arts organizations and agencies. Creative Capital also offers artist project support grants.
GYST (Getting Your Sh*t Together)
GYST is a software application for PC and MAC for tracking artworks and other career-related items such as artist statements, contacts, etc.
New York Foundation for the Arts
NYFA Source provides online access to the nation’s most extensive databank of grants, emergency relief, residencies, publications and sources of information for artists of all disciplines.
SCORE (Counselors to America’s Small Business) is a nonprofit association dedicated to providing entrepreneurs with free, confidential face-to-face and email business counseling. SCORE connects you with mentors and provides business workshops at locations around the country.
Springboard for the Arts
Springboard for the Arts provides a variety of resources to artists in the Upper Midwest region. Services include art business workshops, loans, emergency assistance, and a comprehensive state-by-state listing of resources for artists living in the Upper Midwest
University of Massachusetts: Arts Extension
UMass Amherst Arts Extension Service presents workshops for artists in its region, and also offers credit and noncredit online courses in arts management.
Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts
Many states have a Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts organization that provides free legal advice to qualifying artists. In addition many of these organizations present workshops on legal issues facing artists. This online directory will help you locate an organizaton near you. In addition, this website from St. Louis Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts (VLAA) lists many resources for legal information and information on programs in the St. Louis area.
