Grovewood Gallery Fundraiser for CERF+
April 22, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 5:30 pm
On Saturday, April 22, Grovewood Gallery in Asheville will host a benefit for CERF+, a national non-profit arts organization that helps artists prepare for and recover from emergencies. Customers can save 10 percent on all ceramic art, and local fiber artist Lisa Klakulak and studio furniture maker Brent Skidmore will be performing craft demonstrations and interacting with guests from 11am – 4pm. 10 percent of all gallery sales from the day will go to CERF+.
Asheville artist Lisa Klakulak will demonstrate the wet felting process as she sculpts components for her jewelry compositions. An array of her finished works will also be on display and available for sale. Klakulak has a BFA in Fiber from Colorado State University. She teaches workshops worldwide and exhibits at national fine craft exhibitions and select galleries. Her body adornment, accessories and figurative sculpture have been featured in Fiber Arts, Surface Design Journal, Fiber Art Now and American Craft. In 2015, Klakulak was a recipient of the James Renwick Alliance’s Award of Excellence for Innovation in Craft.
Studio furniture maker Brent Skidmore will demonstrate surface design techniques on wood. Skidmore serves as Associate Professor of Art and Art History as well as Director of Craft Studies at UNC Asheville. He is also a co-collaborating founder of UNC Asheville’s STEAM studio at the River Arts Makers Place (RAMP). He received his MFA in Sculpture from Indiana University in 1990 and a BFA in Sculpture from Murray State University in 1987. Skidmore has taught at many esteemed craft schools across the country, including Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Arrowmont School of Arts, and Penland School of Crafts. His work has been widely exhibited throughout the United States and showcased in the Smithsonian Craft Show and SOFA-Chicago.
