Typhoon Mawar was one of the strongest Northern Hemisphere tropical cyclones on record in the month of May. On May 24, 2023, Typhoon Mawar passed just north of Guam as a menacing Category 4 storm, bringing ferocious hurricane-force winds, torrential rainfall, and a trail of devastation in its wake.
The impact of the storm on Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands was so severe that both regions were officially declared major disaster areas by the federal authorities. The typhoon wreaked havoc upon the islands, significantly damaging vital infrastructure, including roads and buildings.
