Emergency Relief Program Re-Opens | Programa de CERF+ de Ayuda para Emergencias
The Craft Emergency Relief Fund Program is open and we are now accepting new inquiries to help artists facing career-threatening emergencies. Generous supporters answered the call to replenish our fund after an unprecedented year of natural disasters. I want to personally thank every one of you for helping us raise over $350,000.
CERF+ Responds to Recent Disasters
We face an unprecedented challenge as we respond to the recent devastating disasters from Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria and the wildfires in Northern California. To date, we’ve heard from over 100 artists in Texas, Florida, the U.S. Virgin Islands, California, Puerto Rico, Georgia, South Carolina, and Louisiana.
CERF+ has set a fundraising goal of $1 million for our Disaster Relief Fund. Thanks to some very generous gifts early on from Windgate Charitable Foundation, Etsy, the sponsors of our recent Molten Glass Magic Show in St Louis and many others, we are close to $300,000 toward that goal.
Hurricanes + Human Spirit: Resiliency in Action
Every catastrophe is unique, but all share the power to bring people together. Only two months have passed since Harvey, and our part of the world has already experienced three more deadly hurricanes, several earthquakes, ruinous wildfires and an evil act of domestic terrorism. I imagine that the solidarity and volunteerism seen in Houston, is playing out in similar fashion in all the places where these other recent disasters occurred.
Harvey’s Angels
Glass artist Sheri Hargrove has called the beautiful Texas island of Port Aransas her home for more than 12 years. Her shop, Port A Glass has become a well known fixture in downtown Port “A”. Friends describe Sheri as “an incredibly generous human being who would never ask for assistance – instead, Sheri would be the first to give it.” It turns out that Sheri herself would need help when disaster struck this September.
