Severe weather with destructive tornadoes affected several southern and midwestern states in 2023. In June, an EF-2 tornado hit Lost River, Indiana, and widespread damage included flattened buildings in Greenwood, Indiana. Significant damage also occurred across the Atlanta metropolitan area and northern Georgia, causing numerous power outages, flight disruptions, and travel delays. Earlier this year, an EF 4 tornado devastated the town of Rolling Fork, Mississippi, where preliminary damage reports estimate that 80-85% of homes sustained severe damage or were completely destroyed. Many other parts of the country have also been affected by tornadoes and severe storms.
